Margapati dance is one of Balinese dance created by dance artists, I Nyoman Kaler in 1942. Margapati derived from the word "mrga" means beast, while "pati" means king, ruler or master (the words might be referred to Sanskrit in Hindi). The dance movement inspired by the gestures of the king of jungle or lord of the beast (the Lion) which is fierce and frightening, stalking prey in the woods. Margapati dance is often called the dance of the savage lion.
