Bajra Sandhi Monument Renon Denpasar Bali

Bajra Sandhi monument has a unique shape, beautiful and full of meaning. Bajra or Genta become the main shape of the monument. Especially in Bali, Hindu priest always use bajra or genta in leading the implementation of certain rites or sacred rituals. Bajra Sandi monument aims to capture the soul and spirit of struggle of the Balinese and also to explore, develop and preserve the culture of Bali.

The idea to construct the Bajra Sandi monument is started in 1980 and Prof. Ida Bagus Matra (Bali's governor at the time) as the originator. Followed by the monument architectural competition in 1981 and were won by Ir. Ida Bagus Gede Yadnya. Design architecture of the monument is a symbol of independence of the Republic of Indonesia August 17, 1945 which is reflected in the design of the 17 entrance gate, 8 main pillars and the height of the monument 45 meters.



In 1987, the development of Bajra Sandhi began to be implemented. Land area of 13.8 hectare become home to the monument with building area of 4,900 square meters. The monument construction had been halted but resumed again until inaugurated by Megawati Soekarno Putri on 14 June 2013. This monument stands firmly in Renon Square, District of Denpasar Timur, Denpasar City, Bali.

The main building (Utama Mandala) of the monument is divided into three parts consisting of: nistaning utama mandala, madianing utama mandala, and utamaning utama mandala.

Nistaning Utama Mandala is the lower part of the main building. In this section there are several spaces such as information, exhibitions, library, souvenir, and meeting rooms. In this place visitors can enjoy historical photos, impressed by the classical and brings the imagination to the past. This photo tells a lot about the struggle of the people of Bali and also about the kingdom in Bali.

Madianing Utama Mandala is the central part of the main building. This part become the home for 33 diorama of Balinese struggle from the pre-history, the development of civilization of Balinese, the historical development of the kingdom of Bali, until the time of the struggle for independence of the Republic of Indonesia. The place is also equipped with a unique feature called "Puser Tasik", a classical fish pond with ornament of fountains and frog statues.

Utamaning Utama Mandala is the top of the main building and often called "ruang peninjauan" to enjoy the panorama around the monument. Once up the stairs to the top, visitors can see several of important buildings in Bali such as the Office of the Governor of Bali, Bali Provincial Parliament Buildings, and the lovely surrounding landscape.

Bajra Sandhi opens from morning until 5.00 pm. The monument is surrounded by beautiful green airy, spacious and open to the public. This field is very popular where locals come to jog, bicycle, soccer, and other activities. The opening ceremony of the Bali Art Festival (Pesta Kesenian Bali or PKB) held here every year and usually opened by the President of Indonesia. In addition, the fields and monument was also used by couples who going to marry to do pre-wedding photo shoot.
