Tumpek Kandang is an expression of gratitude to Ida Hyang Widi Wasa in the manifestation as Sang Hyang Rare Angon, who gave the grace of life, health, and healing in animals (wild and tame).

This is based on the important role of the pets in the joints of human life. They contribute greatly in helping on the farm, increasing incomes, improving nutrition, ceremony, up to the art and literature.

This ceremony is celebrated every 210 days, on Saniscara Kliwon wuku Uye. Due to the fall in wuku Uye, often called "Tumpek Uye". Tumpek Kandang (Tumpek Uye) refers to the word "Tumpek" and "Kandang".



"Tumpek" is one of the ceremonies that are celebrated every 35 days, as the conjunctions of the five-day week (Kliwon) with the 7-day week (Saniscara).

While the "Kandang" Refers to Balinese for "Cage", symbolizing the domesticated or household animals, such as: cows, pigs, chickens, dogs, ducks, birds, cats, honey bees, etc.

In this animal blessing day, the household animals are honored with a ceremony or ritual, carried out at the farm simultaneously throughout Bali. At the end of the ceremony, Balinese sprinkling the holy water along with white rice directly into the head of these animals.

Tumpek Kandang is not only celebrated by the Balinese, but also several countries in the world and simply called "Blessing of the Animals" (Animal Blessing Ceremony). For example, the Blessing of the Horses is a species-specific tradition held throughout the year by people in Germany, France, Switzerland, and Italy.
