Pura Ida Ratu Dukuh Pujung Sari Besakih - Holy Temple And Beautiful Surroundings

Ida Ratu Dukuh Temple is one of the temples in the Catur Lawa Temple group. This holy temple is located some distance from Pura Penataran Agung Besakih. This can be accessed by car, passing through Batu Madeg Temple and Peninjoan Temple. It's about 750 meters northeast of Peninjoan Temple. This temple is located in Pujung Sari, Rendang, Karangasem Regency, Bali.

Catur Lawa Temple is the four temples that surround Padma Tiga (Penataran Agung Temple) which has a function as "penyade" or the party responsible for "Catur Loka Pala" Temple. The temples included in the Catur Lawa Temple group are as follows:

• Ratu Pasek Temple, in White color, as "penyade" or the party responsible for Gelap Temple.
• Ratu Pande Temple, in Red color, as penyade or the party responsible for Kiduling KretegTemple.
• Ratu Penyarikan Temple, in Yellow color, as penyade or the party responsible for Ulun Kulkul Temple.
• Ratu Dukuh Temple, in Black color, as penyade or the party responsible for Batu Madeg Temple.

Meanwhile, each of Catur Lawa Temple has its own role or task which aims to support the implementation of the ceremony in Besakih. It was stated that the Catur Lawa Temple was a sacred place where the people of "Bali Mula" gathering, who were assigned as the forerunner to "ngamong" or responsible for the implementation of the ceremony at Besakih Temple.

Pasek Temple plays a role in providing and arranging various ceremonial needs or offerings. Pande Temple has a role in providing and arranging all the equipment. Penyarikan Temple plays a role in managing administrative requirements so that the ceremony runs smoothly. Meanwhile, Ratu Dukuh Temple plays a role in managing all food and clothing needs, including those that is sacred, which are commonly used in ritual and spiritual activities at Besakih Temple.

Each Catur Lawa Temple has its own "pengempon". Pengempon means the party or citizen responsible for all matters relating to the temple so that it can function as it should. Pengempon for Ida Ratu Dukuh Temple is the citizen of Dukuh Segening.

This temple has a beautiful traditional Balinese architecture and consists of several levels or mandalas. The main shrine in this temple is Meru Tumpang 5, as the worship of Hyang Sangkul Putih. He is a holy priest who is very meritorious in arranging yadnya ceremonial activities in Pura Besakih.

It is said that Ratu Dukuh temple is also called Dukuh Sakti Temple. This temple is touted as "pasraman", a place for learning and meditation practice with Hyang Sangkul Putih as a spiritual guide. Dukuh is a term for "dwijati" or holy priest, he settled in a dormitory. Meanwhile, people who need guidance come to his dormitory.

Besides the main shrine of Meru, there are also small pavilions and other supporting buildings. The temple is neatly arranged, complete with some statue ornamentation, carvings of a pair of dragons on the entrance steps, and rows of beautiful ornamental plants.

This temple is devoted to the worship of Sang Hyang Sangkul Putih. The “pujawali” or temple anniversary celebration at Pura Ratu Dukuh Pujung Sari Besakih is held during Purnama Sasih Kapat (during the full moon in the fourth month of the Balinese calendar). The temple is surrounded by towering pine forests. You can spend time enjoying the beauty of the temple while breathing in the clean, fresh atmosphere.
