Pura Pesimpangan Besakih Bali - Nice Temple and Beautiful Surrounding!

Pura Pesimpangan Besakih is a temporary stopover shrine when the holy procession of Ida Bhatara in Besakih returns from the melasti or purification ceremony at Watu Klotok Beach, Klungkung Regency. Pesimpangan is derived from the word "simpang" (in Balinese), which means stopover.

Pura Pesimpangan is situated in Besakih Village, Rendang, Karangasem Regency, Bali. The public transportation services to this spot are still limited. You can choose several options such as using a travel agent, taxi, or rent a vehicle and drive yourself to the location.



This temple is not too big, located at the foot of Mount Agung. This spot is rather remote and less than one kilometer to the south-west of Manik Mas Temple.

After the completion of the melasti ritual at Segara Watu Klotok, the procession of Ida Bhatara will stop off at several spots before reaching Besakih Village. After some time, this sacred procession will return to Besakih, but not directly to Pura Penataran Agung Besakih.

To welcome the arrival of Ida Bhatara's procession at Pura Penataran Agung, several offerings and others need to be prepared. This takes time and is rather long.

Therefore, this holy procession stopped by for a while (several hours) at Pura Pesimpangan. Once the preparations are complete, the procession will depart for the Pura Penataran Agung and a welcoming ceremony took place.

The main shrine at Pesimpangan Temple is called, Gedong Limas Catu which functions as a "pesimpangan" or temporary stana during the procession of Ida Bhatara in Besakih. This building is a general shrine called, "gedong" with a pyramid-shaped roof design made of nature fiber, which is getting smaller and conical at the top, and without the top cover (crown).

It is said that in the temple, there are rocks which probably remnants of worship sites in the past when there were still many "sects" in Bali. There are also bale pavilions and other supporting buildings.

The government of Jembrana Regency has been responsible for the temple. The piodalan ceremony at this temple falls on Tuesday or Anggara Kliwon Wuku Julungwangi (Tuesday-Kliwon of the week Julungwangi).

The area around the temple is still natural, surrounded by trees, locals’ fields, and also the amazing panorama of Mount Agung. You can spend time and relax while enjoying the fresh air and beautiful panorama.
